Hachenburg has about 6,400 inhabitants and is the administrative seat of the Verbandsgemeinde Hachenburg. The town is known for the castle (today the seat of the University of the Deutsche Bundesbank), the Alter Markt with market fountain, the Westerwald brewery and the Katharinenmarkt. The station is on the Limburg–Altenkirchen line.
